Mark,

Well said.

It is interesting for me to note the position of most bears I know. They are sure that 1)a stock will go down, 2)they have done a complete analysis, and 3)people who don't listen to them are inferior creatures. I've learned to smile and nod. The smartest investor I know has lost tens of thousands of dollars over the past year.

It's possible, in my experience, to learn from certain kinds of mistakes. Particularly, it is possible to learn to avoid the "buy high, sell low" paradigm. It is possible to learn to cut your losses early. I've yet to learn how to avoid picking the wrong company or the wrong market segment. But I figure that if you have one big winner every few years you will do really well over the long haul. The only trick there is not to cut your gains (sell too soon).

This thread has been very insistent on two things. Buying Dell, and holding Dell. If you've followed that advice over the past several years you've got your big winner for this decade. The hard part will be to determine when to change horses. It isn't yet, as far as I can tell. But when Dell's market share starts getting over about 15%, we will have to start thinking about these sorts of things. When that time comes I am sure we will be helping each other make the right choices.

I really like this thread.
