this distribution alternative is very intriguing. where did you get this information?? I just concluded a conversation tonight about the possibilities of e-tailers forming distribution channels with local businesses with whom they currently deal adding an incentive $ for them to serve as retail pickups locally. the major expense of internet (vs local brick & mortar) is shipping costs which decrease if they can limity delivery to local centers with whom they already do business with (forgive the run on sentence that never ends.) think of the home shopper designating an end destination, tracking their shipments from multiple vendors and going to pick up merchandise at one local location all pre-arranged by e-mail. seems to me to be a win-win for all. what do you think??? is B&N doing a mini-version of that concept with local stores or not?? why are fedex and rpi and ups stock prices rising?? what is the answer as they raise their rates because home delivery is so much more costly?? think about it?? I'd love your opinions.

we can be passive investors or we can help brainstorm our financial future by augmenting the e-tail business out there. I'm for the latter.

along those lines, let's think of the internet as the operating system for business/home users in terms of distributive computing applications/software. what if you never had to worry again about upgrades to MSWord, etc. no network staff/gardware, only internet boxes with reserve space just like web pages, all secure. Website hosting is the name and ibm and sunw are at the forefront of the infrastructure of this broadband-dependent phase of internet evolution. who will take advantage of it?? food for thought. let's ramp up and help visualize the future both for investors and CEO's, the latter of whom i leave you with a rough quote from Jim Crowe of LVLT who said months ago that "the ones with the capital just don't get it and the ones that get it just don't have the capital."
