Craig,

To get back to 1999, I spoke to a friend yesterday who is interested in a digital camera, but also is considering a digital video camera with which to capture stills and video. He wants to mail tidbits on a disc to his family in Europe or just e-mail still frames of his kids. Somebody did us the great disfavor of creating two video standards (PAL and NTSC). Digital video is a good solution for those of us with family abroad given that .jpeg, .avi and the like are universal standards.

I suspect that we will see more cameras offering video capture such as the Mavica currently offers. You are going to need a CF II card for this. You can forget about SmartMedia altogether. The IBM microdrive could also horn in on this business.

Sorry about the tangential reference to your discussion, but I was just planning my next digital camera purchase. More about this later.
