A logical reason he sold higher-priced shares is to pay for the lower priced shares and capital gains tax. The net result was ownership of more shares. If he had unlimited funds, he wouldn't have had to sell the higher priced shares. Its as simple as becoming profitable with one shift per day or so on one production line and figuring out that 270 are more than enough to do it!
