Nihil, I don't think we can blame whoever it was who created those intense vibes in Jerusalem two thousand years ago for the sometime brutalities and general cluelessness those who thought they were adapting his belief system, but have twisted it horribly. In fact, perhaps what is really dangerous is worshipping others, because of the power it takes away from the individual, and the mass hysteria it creates among followers.

I keep going back to that statement I read somewhere recently, which goes something like this--"Jesus was not a Christian; Buddha was not a Buddhist." I think it is really profound, because it makes clear that these people were two individuals seeking their own way in the world, looking for answers. We all could at least attempt to do the same, if we stay clear of just following the herd. And you are quite right about the difference between worship and love and admiration of real people.
