You really missed the number 1 problem with satellite access. People complain about sharing bandwidth over cable, well think about satellite! You data goes to every subscriber on your channel. They have a limited number of channels to transmit on and a limited total bandwidth. Every single user shares the same bandwidth. This has extreme implications during peak usage.

Here's my list:

1) Limited bandwidth.
2) Still need a phone line and modem.
3) Fixed delay from request to response on every packet. (2.7 seconds? roughly 22k miles * 2/c)
I've got to imagine it becomes very annoying.
4) Cost.

Low orbit solved some of these problems, but you'll still have to deal with #1 and #4.
