For additional reading, there is discussion on the SI EMC thread summarizing information from a publication known as Client-server News, highlighting Compaq's entry into storage through the acquired DEC storage program (one of Brocade's first contracts), coupled with CNT (which we read about last week) and Bus-Tech (which I had not heard of). The story says that Compaq will make announcements concerning its plans and products, as it "takes aim" at EMC.

The SUNW thread on SI also discusses the SUNW press release discussing encroachment on EMC's storage business, but without any specifics (who is that outside switch maker, if any).

Data General had a big writeup today in the local Boston Newspapers about improving its market share in storage software and its Clarion product line (Brocade).

Decisions are being made, and SUNW and IBM remain out there without publicly confirmed switch partners, along with others. This information suggests to me that we have not heard the last of EMC's plans and partners either.
