Hal, the drives have a contamination problem. Dust getting onto the disk surface and
recording heads. The Jaz is basically like any hard disk drive except
it is removeable. Normally disk drives are sealed to keepout contaminants.
The cartridge type of drives have a more difficult time because of
this. Syquest has been doing it longer and I beleive that they have
found ways to lessen the problem. Iomega has been doing contact type
recording until the Jaz. I don't know if they can fix the problem before
the competition catches up. ie. Syquest. I have seen the Syquest
Syjet 1.3GB. It doesn't have this problem. In fact they run the thing
in a dust box. The only issues they have are standard firmware and some
minor hardware problems. I expect to see it on the street in July or August
