If you look back just a few posts you will see some comments on my part about the value of Unitec moving to Java. Jini is new and I don't know much about it. I thought it applied to LANS but perhaps the idea can be applied to the type of "networks" that Unitec sets up as well. If so, this could make the whole setup and configuration of field sites much faster. Could save days of setup time in the field which is very expensive. If Unitec, with their newly qualified Sun developers were to incorporate Jini code/awareness into field devices they could presumably gain a financial advantage in field installation and in commissioning of systems. I think it's pretty significant but as always, the results will be a little while in coming. I seem to remember John (before he disowned us <g>) estimating it would take two months or so to port Unitec Gold to Java.

Stuart.
