Some thoughts on Sprint PCS from a customer...
I switched from GTE Wireless to Sprint PCS a few months ago, and have been a very satisfied customer. After comparing the calling plans offered by the various cellular providers, it was clear that the plans offered by Sprint PCS were vastly superior to the others' offerings. With cheaper rates, great sound quality, free roaming, and no need for a yearly contract, the decision was easy.
I have been astounded by how many people I know who have either signed up with or switched over to Sprint PCS in recent months. One drawback I would say is that their coverage areas are a bit spottier than the others due to the fact that they're still building the infrastructure, but that seem to be happening pretty rapidly; I have personally witnessed Houston, TX, and Winston-Salem, NC, coming online in the past few months. And at least in the SF area, it's not really a problem unless one frequently travels to the less-populated regions within the metropolitan area.
The other area in which I would like to see improvement is the hold times when calling customer support. Sometimes I have waited 10 or even 15 minutes during busy times of the day. I think this is mostly a result of having signed up so many new subscribers in such a short period of time. If they can get a handle on such growing pains, then I don't see what will stop them from capturing a lion's share of the low- to mid-range market. Like I said earlier, an incredible number of my friends and acquaintances have signed up with Sprint in recent months. |
