Further good info from Mohan Marette on spreading price pressures, now showing evidence of moving to Japan.

Note: Japan traditionally quality oriented (a far cry from my early childhood memories)tends to want better quality in their PC products.

Dell has refrained from exacerbating price decline. Compaq according to this article, was at the forefront in initiating price declines. This, given the AMD connection seems highly likely. Why not take advantage of their edge in the low end market?

That advantage may not be as great, given Intel's commitment to that segment of the market. As time goes by, what remains to be seen is Dell's continuing response to all of this.
