If your going to be a trader, then you'll make good mistakes and bad ones. That's precisely why the options are so juicy right before high-beta stock and their big earnings announcements. Lots of risk. If you're confident you sell that risk. If you're not, you buy it, but you'll pay alot of premium for it.
