GE's NBC Seeks Alliance With Major Online Player, Paper Says

New York, Jan. 25 (Bloomberg) -- General Electric Co.'s NBC wants to leverage its fledgling Internet and cable assets to help offset a $100 million shortfall at the No. 2 television network, and is seeking an alliance with or purchase of an online company, Electronic Media reported, citing unidentified ''high-level sources.'' NBC is negotiating a ''broad deal'' with at least one Internet service provider, most likely America Online Inc., Yahoo! Inc. or Lycos Inc., and is in talks with Time Warner Inc. and its high-speed Internet access service, Road Runner. A public stock sale of NBC's Internet assets or an Internet joint venture would generate new revenue and ''multimedia power as broadcast, cable and Internet converge,'' the paper said.

Last week, Snap, an Internet directory co-owned by Cnet Inc. and NBC, said it will offer a version of its directory with video and audio, aimed at users with high-speed Internet access.
