You have posted this guy (Don Feder) before and I think he needs to take a writing course. But on the content of this piece, he makes some valid points however he doesnt state the big picture issue and I dont know if its deliberate or not.

Just to take one example - vouchers for schools. It is true the democrats are against school vouchers. I dont know what the national position is but the local one here is this - the proponents of vouchers want to give each family some $$ amt for each kids education. I think it was $900 (?) which is not enough for anybody, but beyond that, the issue is that there are some kids that fall off the spectrum of being educated for some "average" dollar amount, and those are the ones that need the most help. The affluent, smart kids will be better off - they will find quality education, but the kids with learning disabilities or the problem kids etc probably need twice that amount to get the same education. That is the issue - NOT that the Dems want to keep everyone in public schools.

The same thing is true for healthcare. Right now we have the conservative view of healthcare in this country - meaning, we all have to fend for ourselves. Conservatives like it because they have choice etc and dont have to pay more than their fare share, and in some cases less. But the problem is there are huge groups of people that are inadequately served. I have said one example are women under 30 who have to pay over $400./mo for private health insurance - that group subsidizes everybody else.

So back to the schools, if you want a school system just like healthcare in this country, then vouchers are for you. There are some people that want that. But it doesnt have that much to do with keeping the public schools in place and their bureaucracy etc.
