Is Digtal Me on Internet time?

I doubt it.

The original marketing plan or intentions for the product, may not be what makes that product hot. Nor are the judgements of one of Novell's notorious committees able to think as big as a hot product requires.

I clearly remember attending a COMDEX show in Atlanta in the early 80's. There was an HP presentation where we all filed into a large hall and at each desk was a portable PC computer HP was introducing. I got bored having the speaker intone DOS commands that could be invoked by hitting function keys and walked over to the edge of the hall trying to find a polite way of getting out of the place. There in the corner was a guy from an HP group in Idaho with something he called a laser printer. So I stopped to watch what this totally ignored product did. Some little group within HP had come up with this pc printer product and had managed to get some spill-over space in the big hall devoted to the oversized calculator masquerading as a portable computer, the obvious "hot product" according to the marketing guru's at HP.

Clearly the marketing plan for PC industry products that Spring featured HP portables and not the HP laser printers hidden away in the corner.

I doubt whether Novell had in mind what I am advocating for Digital Me. It was probably just a demo looking to be a product. Nevertheless nothing I have said isn't something someone can and probably did already think of at Novell. The question is can someone at Novell grasp the idea and provide some leadership to pull it together so that we finally get a hot internet NDS product that puts Novell into the rightful place it deserves on the internet at the center of Ecommerce?

If it clicks in my mind and in Fred's, I'm sure it clicks in Schmidt's. The question is who runs with it. In about 9 months this company in Redmond Washington will be all over every one of these ideas with vaporware. Novell has to be bold NOW and go for the brass ring while it has a lead.
