ALPHA ANXIETY

Compaq Computer Corp. is reconsidering the viability of its
Alpha microprocessor. Intel Corp., Compaq's primary manufacturer
of the chip, has told Compaq it must raise the price of the
microprocessors to keep from losing money. A Compaq spokesperson
would not entirely deny the report, but says: "We have publicly
and privately communicated our long-term support for Alpha."

BORDER WARS: LOTUS IRONS OUT CHANNEL GLITCHES

Lotus Development Corp. announced that sales of Notes/Domino 4.6
release had hit record levels of 5 million seats sold. Still,
observers noted that implementing a more hassle-free plan for
dealing with VARs and partners might further benefit sales for
the developer.

ECOMMERCE OPPORTUNITIES

VARs can use Eliance Corp.'s "eSourcing" Solution to help
clients build e-commerce services online. Eliance makes its
money by charging the VAR's customer a percentage of adjusted
sales. The VAR can do likewise, or can charge the client
outright for the solution.

BONES, THE CHANNEL HOUND

In today's installment, Bones looks at Scott McNealy's hockey
skills, Larry Ellison's brush with death, Jeff Papows's run-in
with the Linux faithful, and more.

PRICE POINT: PERIPHERALS

Markups in the Northeast and West are fairly even in this week's
Price Point, although some of the prices can vary greatly. One
VAR in the Northeast is charging over $30 more than a VAR in the
West for the same product. Last year's drop in monitor prices
shows up here as well. Overall monitors tended to have slightly
lower markups.

Visit Price Point regularly online to see what VARs and
integrators are charging for services and products. There,
you'll also find which states are included in each region.
