was, why didn't Intel wait until the Pentium Twenty (XX Roman = twenty English) to intro this serial ID thing. PXX and I'm on a beach with no phones, faxes or PCs. Not really.

Just back from my walk and the first thing I heard was that Intel is giving the option to turn the (damn) thing off. I assume that means permanently, or, at least until you decide to wake it up. As it was originally announced, you could turn it off, but it would turn back on every time you rebooted.

Goes to show you that no matter how comfortable you may be with a stock in an individual company, even they may do something to foul it up.
