At the time Nixon resigned, his popular support was not exactly overwhelming. Which probably had as much to do with his lack of Republican support in the Senate as the facts of the case. But that has nothing to do with the bizarre revisionist history being put out about Nixon being likely to win in a Senate trial, but resigning out of "honor", or something.
