Latest Crop of DVD Players are Hard to Resist

Nicci Noteboom, Associate Editor
ZDNet AnchorDesk

Last week my VCR bit the dust. And wouldn't you know, this week I got a major cold bug and stayed home from work one day (yes, I really was sick). I couldn't comfort myself with my favorite video rentals and was stuck watching daytime TV. How does Jon tolerate those game shows?
This weekend's mission is to find a replacement. But instead of a VCR, I've decided to take the DVD player plunge. And why not? They've come way down in price from a year ago, with most mainstream models in the $400 range. Analysts predict sales to jump from 1.5 million in 1998 to between 3 million and 5 million players in 1999. Click for more. Oh, and the theater-quality visuals and better-than-CD sound is nothing to sneeze at either.
