>With Amazon making all of these alliances

Amazon isnt making any alliances. I've seen about 9 companies in the last week (all of them penny no-name stocks) make announcements that they have entered into a stragegic alliance with Amazon. In every case, it was nothing more than those companies joining the "Amazon associates" program, where you put a link to Amazon on your company's webpage and get a kickback for any books people buy through your site. There are about 110 thousand individuals who are in the amazon associates program, and it takes about 5 minutes to fill out the form and get an automated email response confirming your "membership"

Any company who announces this kind of "alliance" with multiple press releases and fanfare is no better than a snakeoil salesman. They all make sure to include "AMZN" in their release so the newswire boxes pick it up when people check for news stories on Amazon.

So far, the scam seems to be working- most of these stocks go up 20 or 30 percent within minutes after issuing the press release, only to collapse back down to normal by the end of the day. I only wonder how much longer this can keep going before someone on CNBC points it out to the uninformed daytrader masses.
