Nice post, WB. I think one of the potential gotchas about cable is if the cableco owners will be able to resist cramming as many subs as possible on the lines for the benefit of short-term revenue but to the detriment of performance and this long term customer satisfaction. One of the things that impressed me about MSPG before I invested is that they actually refuse new subs in areas where they feel their POPs are overloaded. It remains to be seen whether the cablecos have that discipline.

lists speeds for various DSL configurations. As WB says, ADSL lite looks to be the favored xDSL flavor among the telcos. Also note that upstream & downstream speeds for xDSL differ quite a bit. This is true for everything from satellite access to 56k analog modems. WB, do you know if the up/downstream disparity exists in cable?
