Clarification and additional info: The Kyocera phone preference expressed by a number of users relates to the feature allowing removal of the cell phone from the satellite phone dock; this gives the user the ability to easily carry only the cell phone when in cellular coverage, a feature not available to Motorola IRIDIUM phone users (because the Motorola cellular "cassette" is integral to the phone and cannot be used separately). Both the Kyocera and Motorola phones support CDMA and GSM protocols, the difference being that the Kyocera multi-mode phone involves different cell phones that attach to the satellite "dock", while the Motorola phone user simply swaps cassettes into the phone back.

Cellular cassette shipments began late in Q4 and users are starting to receive them now. I will report on the cellular capability of my phone when my cassette arrives and is activated.

I don't know if this added info is useful, but I wanted to be clear on the points above.

Regards,

Jack
