Janice-- The business of the land is worth looking into? How so? The land was doing little for Madera anyway; they were getting most of their raw lumber from other sources anyway. Madera is not selling all its land...at most, 2/3rds, leaving them with 233,000+ acres, heckuva lot more than most people can lay claim to. I give Ray and Ramiro enough credit that they will not sell the best part of their lands, so what is left will be pretty prime rain forest.
The $96,000,000 this sale would bring in will enable Madera to carry out all of its desired goals: Acquire equipment, hire personnel, prime the pump of their lumber industry, and expand the E-commerce site, if it requires it. Why heck, maybe even carry out a sizable share buyback! The ends seem to justify the means to me, although I wish they could do this without selling their lands.
My example has been Pearl Buck's _The Good Earth_...the land involved there was fertile rice-growing fields, not wild, swampy rain forest. If Madera grows its business properly with the money it receives from the land sale, then buying property elsewhere should prove no problem.
I endorse this idea wholeheartedly. Wherein lies the question?
