"What do you make of the telecommunications reference with respect to flashdiscs and shipments to Lucent, Nortel, et. al.
That was a hidden surprise!!!"
I didn't find this in the release so I must assume you heard this in the Conference Call (which I could not listen to - is there a phone number to listen to repeats?).
Based on everything I'm hearing,, Eli is just confirming my recent feelings that say that all the ducks are coming in line and it's just finally starting to go Eli's way.
As far as your comment, I think that anything that's portable and needs to carry a flash memory (instead of RAM, SRAM, SDRAM) is a market for Sandisk. So the telecommunication stuff is certainly ripe for us, especially as we see these combinational devices come to market (portable cell phone computers, hand helds etc).
Even though we're still talking about small numbers (138mil for the year or so), I can't help but feel like we're at the beginning of a Dell, Microsoft, Intel, Gateway kinda thing on a smaller scale.
I see Eli's comments as an electric potential on a giant grid hanging over the stock tomorrow. How much can the stock resist with such a positive vibe pulling on it? The market does wacky things but I see a nice long term play here that's hard to find in the market right now. There are so many high flyers that are grossly overvalued. I think we're sitting in a good spot. I could go on with my predictions, but I'm often wrong so I'll stop for now.
Don't underestimate Eli's comments. Even though his comments have caused a lot of trouble in the past, he has generally been right on the money in regards to the world-wide market place. He's actually been rather uncanny in this respect. So if he thinks we're looking up, he might be right. In fact, I think he was being a little conservative.
Another thought, if they can outsource manufacturing properly, this should help their bottom line. And I really like the idea that they are very back-logged. They should be able to keep the profit margins up a little bit (law of supply and demand) unless others are able to provide more product.
Did he say 7000 stores? WOW! Now if Kodak and others could keep their shipments up we could see more cameras on the market.
I don't know what will happen tomorrow but I'm positive tonight.
By the way, Hitachi DOES make CompactFlash cards...I've seen them first hand.
The report missed your extimate, but remember that they exceeded expectations by 30% plus filled the report with positive future forecasts. Have we ever seen this before with them?
A lot more big names watching this stock now as compared to this time last year.
The end.
