Joe, this is a keepalive message. I believe BSE will be around for a long time. BSE is similar to scrapie (sheep) which has 20 varieties and is of biblical vintage (at least).
I saw a TV update yesterday that accused UK farmers of continuing to feed sheep offal to cows! In my opinion, this is not the major danger. I see cow manure as the problem.
1. cow eats sheep brains in food pellets
2. cow develops BSE
3. cow defecates on pasture
4. other cows graze on soiled pasture
5. other cows acquire BSE prions from the manure.
My supposition is that the 'non genetic' prions are incredibly hardy. Note that genetic material such as seeds of wheat can lie dormant for centuries and still be germinated. Note that some bacteria can thrive on undersea fumaroles (boiling water and sulphur).
Is it too much to ask that the much simpler 'information packet', prions, persist in manure if DNA can resist such abuse?
Just try to kill cryptospiridium or giardia cysts.
British politicians can suppress information but not disease.
Prions are in general neither good nor bad---I think they simply exist as a sort of parasite (sometimes lethal) in some species.

If genetic researchers persist in doping pigs with human genes to make organ transplants more effective, it is feared that all hell will
break loose. BSE CJD will be the least of our worries.

Try as I might, I could not locate and chart 'Electrophoretics Corp'.
UK listings are hard to get even with UK 'telestock'.
