Personally, I will be very dissapointed if they spin any of alta vista off their books. A company the size of cpq will get negligable value from a spinoff and they don't really have much debt to pay off. Only Kelly thinks they are short on cash, so until someone explains the logic to me, I believe they are better holding all the cards and just inviting someone to the table. With billions being tossed around in order to get a tight deal with a portal, I think they would be better off signing joint ventures where they get some major content providers and possibly aol, to pull viewers to their controlled site.......some deals with some of the large department stores may be beneficial for av as well....If compaq announced they were having a joint press conference with a particular company, there wouldn't be any surprises..I can't recall any announcemenyts where 2 seperate companies said they were having a press conference.....Joint press conferences occur during buyouts, and I don't think that is in the cards here...they could be announcing a slug of ventures for av, and that is what I am rooting for
