FT,
Before your reappearance here this was discussed and I posted quite a bit of scripture. God never said in any circumstance that it was OK to kill a slave. God never instituted the practice of slavery. God's ordinances made it easier for the slaves. Back then slaves were slaves for various reasons, not just stolen and sold into bondage against there will. They were the spoils of war. They sold themselves to avoid poverty or starvation or to pay debts they could be a slave for 7 years like an indentured servant. Many were slaves willingly, many were not. But when God gave the first Levitical laws there has been slavery already for thousands of years. He did not say, let's start having slaves. It was already a fact and He was dealing with the reality. If He had said slavery was outlawed then many people would have starved or been thrown into debters prison never to come out again. People who wanted to become slaves willingly would have been denied a better life than the one they wanted to get away from. And the affect on the economy could have been very severe.

Americans think of slavery in relation to africans being stolen and sold against there will. That is deplorable. I'm sure it happened back then also but it was not the main source of slaves as the kidnapped africans were here. We had indentured servants in this country too. There is more to the issue than just a knee jerk reaction that we americans have been conditioned to.
