They bailed LTCM for the same reasons they bailed out the Hunt brothers when they tried to corner the Silver market. To prevent systemic shocks to the financial system and runs on the banks should several of them collapse. Whether you're on the gold standard or Fiat, a bank run is the last thing anyone wants to have occur. Nice to see some new (old?) faces showing up... Ron
