Bill,

The external eprom is the way it is done on Sun workstations.

Folks buy very expensive software packages which are node-locked to the host-id.

SO there is no reason AMD or NSM could not implement something silmilar.

Howvever it would NOT be as secure as the Intel on-chip version.
