Thanks for doing some digging re the P2B-F! I see now why others have sung your praises on the anniversary of this thread.

>>New boards have new bioses and new bioses are more likely to have bugs.<< You're saying we're not in a perfect world yet?? :)

>>IMO five slot PCI boards are the way to go.<<
I wish I were as organized and knowledgeable as the other participants of this thread. That way I wouldn't keep burning circles trying to make up my mind about which way to go.

I almost pulled the trigger today and went for the P2B-F. Then I remembered that I'm going to want a SCSI scanner and an external SCSI JAZ. So now I'm trying to figure out whether I should go with the P2B-S (SCSI is built in) OR go with the P2B-F and put a SCSI card in it.

I can't believe how many hours I spent today on HP's and IOM's web sites trying to make sure I understood what I'm getting myself into with respect to their SCSI products.

I finally had to call HP order to get some questions answered(?). This might be of some interest to someone out there. They told me that HP scanners have to be the last device on the SCSI chain. That really surprised me because I figured (there's that assumed word again) all SCSI devices would have two connectors so they could be daisy chained. Also, HP told me the recommended SCSI card to use with their scanners is the Adaptec C6271A(???). I've gone to the Buy.com web site and couldn't find an Adaptec card with that number. As far as I can tell the part number of all Adaptec cards begins with AHA. It looks like I'll be on the phone with HP and probably Adaptec tomorrow. ARGGG

My HP experience had me a little gun shy so I figured I'd better check out IOM too. What if the JAZ also has to be the last device in the chain? Fine mess that would be!! The spec sheet at IOM's site is better than HP's but I couldn't find anything about which SCSI card(s) to use with the JAZ. It seems like I've heard somewhere Adaptec is "the" card every SCSI component manufacture makes sure they are compatible with.

If you've managed to get this far through my ramblings here's a question for you. The P2B-S has Adaptec SCSI built into it, so if the SCSI component is compatible with some Adaptec card (the C6271A??? for example) does that mean I can find Adaptec drivers that will make the device compatible with the Adaptec SCSI that's built into the MoBo?

I'll report what I learn from tomorrow's calls to IOM and HP.

Buying an off the shelf 'puter @ Office Depot is sounding better all the time!

Thanks again - Emory
