I'm going to have to disagree with your predicitions on DSL. XDSL is going to be big in the business industry where you need the speed and don't want to have to share it out. DSL will not take over residential areas, simply due to the price difference. Cable modems are cheap - $40/mo for the whole package in some areas. The sharing will not be that big a deal as soon as someone develops a reliable caching technology. In your example of everyone d/ling a video file, if that file was sitting on the ISP server, it could reach everyone fast.

For the most part, however, people will take whatever comes first and be wary to change. My area has neither; I'll snatch up whichever is released first. In the end, we'll see DSL as a business tool and cable as an individual tool. IMHO, of course...

BTW, upstream for one-way cable is 33.6.
