I understand you here are speaking of national debt, but many are now also looking at this number in a different way. As before the figure looked at was the GNP and the change has been to the GDP, many say we should look at the total debt picture of our nation rather than the simple national debt. When one does the additive thing with private debt + corporate debt + national debt the = is more considered by many more dangerous than ever in history.
