Unisys Helps Montana Department of Revenue Streamline Operations
Unisys Integrated Tax Solution will enable Montana to provide a greater level of responsiveness to citizens
BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 26, 1999-- Unisys Corporation announced Tuesday that it is under contract with the Montana Department of Revenue to design, develop and implement an integrated information system to enhance customer service and improve revenue collection.

The $12 million project involves integrating the department's withholding and unemployment tax processing operations.

Unisys is designing this solution as the foundation for a more expansive information system that will accommodate additional state revenue sources, such as income and property taxes.

This system will provide a basis to allow the department to achieve its goal of integrating over the next five years all 26 revenue sources collected by the state. Unisys began developing the integrated system in April 1998, and is planning to implement the core system in September 1999.

The new ''Process Oriented Integrated System'' (POINTS) provides all staff with a single point of entry showing complete information for each customer. With one point of entry, department staff can more efficiently analyze data and track changes, allowing the state to provide superior customer service.

POINTS will also facilitate consistent collection of revenue, which moves the Department closer to its goal of processing all returns and depositing all receivables within one business day.

Based on client/server technology using Oracle database software, POINTS automates the department's four core business processes that cross revenue sources: customer registration, return processing, accounting and case management. Building these four processes into the core POINTS solution enables the department to incrementally change the functions of the system without costly redesign.

''The extensive experience Unisys has in information systems enables us to integrate a complete solution,'' said Milo Vukelich, Montana Department of Revenue's deputy project manager. ''Montana citizens will realize significant benefits from the standardized approach - both in terms of funds availability and access to information.''

''We have leveraged our knowledge gained from past tax and revenue engagements to create an integrated system that meets the State of Montana's requirements. Through this relationship, Montana will be able to provide better, more efficient service to its citizens,'' said W. Stephen Mahle, vice president and general manager, Unisys Public Sector. ''This system also provides a basis for a repeatable solution, establishing a building block for other state revenue agencies.''
