1. Look at different portable electronic device and I think you will find that flash memory is already cross-platform.

2. A few questions for you? Why pay $10 for a 40MByte disk when you could use a 100MB zip for $10. That's 150% more storage for the same $10. Or for that matter use a cd with 650MB. Do you really want to have ten's of these 40 MB disks or a few cd's with your pictures on? Using Lipo's 400KB per Mpixel image, you could store 240 Mpixel images on one 96MB flash card. Surely, that is more than adequate for most people. Using these numbers, I'd say that 48MB is adequate. Anyway, the point is using flash relieves any chance of exposure to elements (such as dust, sand, ...) from corrupting your data. IMO, a much better solution.
