<<With this state-of-the-art routing engine, the AcceleRouter(tm) can boost IP data traffic throughput to tens-of-millions PPS, a 100-fold performance increase over most popular CPU-based routers. >>
100 fold improvement! This is still just their interim product, as Aranea is going to run at 200 million PPS and will cluster up to Terabit range.
<<The AcceleRouter(tm) is protocol-independent, working equally well with routers from all vendors. >>
Everyone should see now why the Xyplex acquisition was so important - the code! MRVC supposedly got 500 man-years of DEBUGGED and PROVEN compatible router and switching code with the Xyplex acquisition. IMO, if they got NOTHING ELSE out of Xyplex, the deal was still worthwhile because of the code (and they got MUCH more than that as we know).
People, stop and think about this for a moment. Debugged and proven-compatible code does not grow on trees. Do you think CSCO or BAY shares their code? This is a strategic resource for them.
ATM, FDDI, OC-x, SONET, etc. This code can be written (by experts over a long time), but even then it can take months or years of debugging and running in production environments to reach a PROVEN compatible status. How many other vendors have this type of proven code? Not many. How many would license it? Probably none. MRVC got all this in one fell-swoop. You see it in their Fiber Driver, and now in this new router. Without Xyplex neither product could exist now - and they did it in less than 1 year.
John, do you remember on our tour, we saw a small testing room with CSCO, BAY AND XYPLEX equipment in a test network? They were using the Xyplex box because of it's proven compatibility. Now you see the results. |
