This potentially works in Amazon's favor from a competitive standpoint (of course if all e-commerce yields a maximum of 0.5% net, then they're all hosed), if they are the ones best able to spend the money to build the largest customer base/revenues and most efficient fulfillment operation [OK, that's big question :-) ].

Maybe try this argument in another year, when it's a bit more clear whether or not the lowest prices are central to growing revenues. My guess is that it's not, and you'll be looking back at another year of impressive sales growth from Amazon.com.
