I believe you can find info about k-6 speed on amd.com
In short it looks like k6 performs most of the tasks either equal or better (in some cases much better) than ppro with the same clock speed. I believe also that it was compared with ppro without mmx that means that the results would be even more in favor of amd if ppro woul have mmx on it (floating point penalty).
It is likely that most of the top tier manufacturesr will use for portables at least and eventually for desktops as well.
