>>>>I have this fear that one day I'll have to justify my existence and will be hardpressed to come up with a reason the world should keep me around---<<<<
Yes. Me too. The world isn't very smart about who it should keep around. Lots of people should be sorted out and dumped. Biology. When we critique our own system's management, the fact that we still exist creeps out our management sense.
Sometimes the best my assessment theory can come up with, is that other than consuming the world's resources, I haven't done as much bad stuff as some people. This way, you can come away with neutral value for your existence. Believe that if they started scrapping by any "rational" method, they should take a few other people first. It's the greater-of-evils/lesser-of-weasels theory. And it might take them some time to gather them up, and by then you could go into nursing or something.
I planted some trees.
I took in some stray animals.
My personal bias says eating low on the food chain is good; I did that.
That's about it.
Oh yah, I didn't have a bunch of children, with no clue of what the world would do with them.
Other than that, I supported the trucking, banking, computer and medical systems. Consumed, and therefore gave people money and jobs. Embraced pollution, energy, and resource consumption. Did nothing, compared to some/many grateful others, to justify why it should be me who consumed those perishables.
Hoooptee doo.
Heh heh.
You guys let me know if I can cheer any similar one up. |
