From the sharky extreme article:
The next big news, according to 3Dfx, revolves around their retail plans for Voodoo3. In addition, 3Dfx is partnering up with the retail chains to present a spanking new corporate image complete with dramatically different packaging and in-store displays focused on bringing acceleration to the masses (and incidentally, making it easier for the rest of us to locate the 3Dfx isle). By providing instructional materials and assistance to retail sales personnel, 3Dfx hopes to have end-user's questions about acceleration technology and games answered at the point of purchase. And finally, there are the television ads.
Now that we are starting to see hardware accelerated software for grannies, pre-schoolers and guide dogs, the old trick of getting fearful consumers to open their PC case to install an add-in card screams for comprehensive support. 3Dfx feels they have the answer in the form of step by step "How To" videos, full online tech support (including email!), and even new drivers that can compensate for the novice (or accident-prone) 3Dfx motorist. Yes Siree! 3Dfx is going all out to make undressing your PC a safe and happy experience.
NOTE TO 3DFX: your site already tends to be a bit pokey, please make arrangements for the enormous increase in traffic you are bound to get.
Look for expenses to skyrocket in the short term as they ramp up to this kind of support and advertising. |
