So what's the difference between this and using the CPU ID, which is now disabled by default, to make a purchase over the Net?

The problem with the processor ID is the untold possibilities for others to abuse it. The fact that you want your INTC investment to appreciate should not cause you to close your eyes to the possible dangers.
