While IOM continues its steady march back downward (now $7 3/8 and falling), allow me to shed some more light on the current Flop! drive fiasco.
The Flop! drive Owner's Manual explicitly states in no uncertain terms that one should:
- Never have the Flop! disc inside the Flop! drive while moving around- it could damage your data.
- Take very special care in labeling the Flop! disc, and to NEVER use more than one label on a disc- any more than one label in thickness on a disc could ruin your drive, disc, and data. You should also VERY CAREFULLY write on the Flop! disc label. It's wise NOT to use a ball point pen. Flop! discs are extremely fragile and you should really use only felt-tip pens-- but you could read all of this for yourself-- it's all in the Flop! Owner's Manual.
- Dust, dirt, moisture, heat, and sunlight will damage your Flop! drive and discs (at least, according to the Flop! Owner's Manual).
- You must return a Flop! disc to its plastic carrying case immediately after removal from the drive. Loose Flop! discs are easily damaged (at least, according to the Flop! manual).
- Failure to follow these and other Explicit Warnings in the Flop! Owner's Manual could void your Warranty.
I have read on other Iomega threads that these and other Flop! drive Owner's Manual Warnings have been forwarded to Agfa, Kodak, Minolta, Olympus, and other digital camera OEM's to warn them of these dangers. I'm glad, as I would hate for them to suffer the financial burden from all of the potential Warranty Returns, RMA's, and Refunds they would most likely have to shell out to their irate Flop! drive victims. |
