Mark, thanks for you illuminating answer. I must tell you that my question was tongue in cheek. There are those who believe that market makers are capable of moving high capitalization, heavily traded stocks like DELL up and down huge amounts (10% or more) in a day. I have steadfastly refused to believe it for two reasons. First, as you indicated in your post, you simply don't have the ability. And second, with respect to stock market movements on the day of options expirey nobody could demonstrate to me how it makes money for the MM even if he had the power.

I'm not one of those who believe that market makers are saints. I well know how much they like to screw the individual investor. I am also aware of multi-tiered pricing with the big guys like GSCO. It is just that I reject the notion that market makers or specialists are capable of the kind of power some ascribe to them.

Anyway, I enjoyed your post immensely. And knowing that I made the same trade as one of those despicable MM's (tongue has been firmly reinserted in cheek) I can now rest easy for knowing my profit is assured!

TTFN,
CTC
