Bob, noticed your activity in the Feb 80's. Tough to do it for less than a point on the bounce.

Definitely! But I watched them drop to about 7 in the last 2 days, so was kicking myself for getting back in too soon. The plan is to get back in when we get dragged down by CPQ, but before the IDC numbers are released on Friday.

By the way, may I ask what prevented you from selling the Feb 90's? I'm interested in hearing what you have to say.

Me? Ah, well.... shuffle, shuffle.... I haven't done a spread before. I've been doing options for less than a year now. Mostly LEAPS, plus some short term calls in a situation like this, plus buying a few puts (rode DBCC down 10 points).

I've looked at doing a spread as you suggest, but it doesn't really appeal to me on Dell during an earnings run. If I want to take some of the risk out, I prefer to buy a lower strike or go out a few months (eg May). Actually, I'm playing this earnings run mostly with Jan 2000 and Jan 2001 calls so I don't get killed in a market crash. The Feb 80s are just the higher risk portion of the overall strategy.

Dang! The bid on those Feb 80s is 10-7/8! Oh well...
