That's pretty cynical, either on your part or the part of the brokerage houses. Not that I would disbelieve, being on the cynical side myself about certain kinds of things.

Be that as it may, I might just put in a lowball day order to buy CPQ tonight, anticipating a weak earnings report. I'd like to see a piece of AltaVista if I can. I don't believe they can get away with little or no distribution to CPQ shareholders. That would be tantamount to declaring financial difficulty and cause CPQ stock to tank.

The channel is an amazing thing to have to depend on, but it's also a resource that companies have used to adjust their bottom line. Dell's is such a pure business model. It can be analyzed much more successfully by those like me who are not in the "inner circle" information stream.
