He could trade over Instinet if he has the funds ($20,000+, if memory serves me right)

However, most of the afterhours trades that most people like to cite (with the usual PCQuote URL and the rest) are usually late day trades rather than Instinet action. You need to call in for the latter.

Usually Instinet gives us a good idea how investors feel about the news. Actually, most of the time how a stock is trading up or down on Instinet after big news releases (mergers, earnings, et al) is generally a good indicator of how it will open tomorrow, unless the analysts decide to put in a negative spin.
