The head and shoulders top at $11.
Correctly short (posted here at the correct times)
That the Japanese were going to be first movers
What Japanese companies was going to be among the first (Sony)
VLNC liquidity issues and burn rate (need for alternative financing)
First to recognize the overcapacity issue
First to post a ranking (validated by recent announcements

You asked me for a ranking of the top three earlier I will try to do so but I going to have to do it a little unconventionally. Based soley on my personal opinion and intuition and nothing else I believe the rank like this with regard to your orginial question (contenders for long term):

Sony/Toshiba/Sanyo
Battery Engineering
Ultralife Batteries
Tadiran
Powerdex
Valence Tech

Lithium Tech
