I have to vent here big time so read this... Ever since AOL became part of the S&P 500, this stock has basically done nothing. Zilch. Meanwhile, all other internet companies, ISPs and networking stocks that had anything to do with the word Internet shot through the roof. But AOL still did nothing. Some people said - well it had gone up so fast - it went up from 90s to 140 so quickly. Tell that to YHOO, AMZN and the other stocks that almost doubled in the first few days of 1999. AOL still did nothing. No downgrades, no bad news. Just did nothing. Some brokerages came out with some analysis saying that any stock that gets added to the S&P 500 goes down for the next few weeks. Crap, I say. THat is any regular stock, not Internet comapnies that have defied gravity with such powerful earnings - as is evidenced by AMZN and EBAY today.
Now, if you dont call the above some kind of conspiracy, then I dont know what conspiracy is. Lets face it, the big players move the markets - these are the funds, the big brokerage houses, the market makers and the specialists. You are telling me that there was nothing going on here. Hard to believe.
Well, I really do hope - if there is any justice in this world - that AOL comes up blowout earnings, announces a stock split and the naysayers and the manipulators crash and burn. And believe me, there is justice in this world.
