Dave
I created the image file of NT successfully, that's #2.
Except this time while DI was loading a blacked out dialog box appeared with the 'busy' hourglass. I could not read the dialog box and the screen stayed like that until I pressed escape and DI then opened.
The same blacked out dialog appeared while the progress bar for image creation was running. The progress bar would stop until I pressed escape again and then it continued. This cycle repeated one more time until the process was complete. The imaging was successful dispite these interruptions.
I found the following on PowerQuest site which seemed to fit what happened:

Drive Image Hangs
If Drive Image is freezing or hanging during the creation or restoration process, it is likely caused by the lack of conventional memory resources on the system. It can also be caused by a network driver that needs to be updated, if you are attempting to store the image on the network.
If the problem is memory related try the following, to free additional memory:
First, complete the following steps to edit the .pif file associated with Drive Image.
1.From Windows, right-click on the Start button, and select Open. 2.Double-click on Programs, then on Drive Image by PowerQuest. 3.Right-click on the Drive Image 2.x icon and select Properties. 4.Select the Program tab, then click on the Advanced button. 5.Click in the radio button in front of "Specify a New MsDOS Configuration> 6.A config.sys window will open that will contain a line loading himem.sys and a DOS=High,UMB line. 7.Add the following line to the config.sys: Device=c:\windows\emm386.exe 8.Click OK, close all Windows and rerun the program (snip)
I then ran DI again with the same hang until I hit escape...... PQ site goes on with more:
(snip)
If the program still hangs, verify that you have sufficient RAM on the system. Then create a basic DOS boot disk whose config.sys file contains the following lines: Device=a:\himem.sys Device=a:\emm386.exe DOS=High,UMB
Eliminate all other unnecessary drivers (i.e. DRVSPACE.bin, CDRom drivers, network drivers). Reboot with the diskette that has been created and attempt to run Drive Image.

I have 128mb memory w/o any apps other than OS. I haven't gone on with the DOS boot disk. Don't have real DOS. Do you think this is how I should procede? Do you think these are memory related hangs even though hitting escape pushes DI to procede?
