Good morning, Frank!!

I found the Steinlager beer at San Francisco's most expensive grocery store. It's where I go when I am very lazy and want to eat cold sesame noodles and pesto salad, and tropical fruits that were lovingly cut up by someone besides me. They have cheeses there from countries I have barely heard of, and a beer selection that stretches about a hundred feet down the aisle, with beers from every continent and quite a few islands, as well. I saw beers from Africa there, I think, which I would like to try next.

I wasn't looking for any beer in particular, actually, although I am fascinated by New Zealand. One of my very favorite drinks is actually apricot ale from the Pacific Northwest, and it is not sweet at all,it just has a wonderful fruity subtlety. Janice thinks I am a sissy, though, for drinking it, so now I am trying to drink like a she-man (he-woman?) or something!!!

Having splurged on everything else, I was just following the sale signs with my eyes. It was only $1.39 a bottle, which seems like a really good bargain. The label says it's judged the world's best lager!! Who decides these things, anyway? I really liked it, because somehow I don't really like dark beers anymore, but light ones are insipid. This is right in the middle, and very refreshing.

Frank, I don't think it would be very hard for you to find. It's imported by UNIBEV Limited, Golden, Colorado, 80401. You could write to them and find out where to buy it in your area, but I suspect a shortcut would be to go to the very most sophisticated liquor store in your area that specializes in beers. They would have it, or could maybe get some for you, since all these foreign beers are distributed here by just a few large companies, I think.

I am really intrigued by Kauai. I am looking for a tropical island to escape to permanently, preferably in the Pacific. What was it like there? Do you think you would have been happy living there? I am someone who wants to just sit on a beach and watch the fish go by, reading, doing art, managing my pathetic portfolio. I spent a year living in a cottage on the beach on an island in Puget Sound, and never wanted to leave. I slow down really naturally, and never crave the intensity or excitement of city life. I understand Maui is also beautiful. Did you go there as well? I am an American citizen with a British passport and can live and work anywhere in the EEC as well, so I really have a lot of choices.

Do you want to tell us about your beautiful fantasy??

Christine
