Mecham was later impeached over this. About the same time, the citizens of Phoenix voted not to build a baseball stadium, and lost their shot at a major league baseball team. Joe Garagiola was so angry he left the state. Then there was Governor "One Eyed" Jack Williams who presided over the opening of a new dormitory at Northern Arizona University.
